Switched To a Project-Based Resume

I get a ton of calls about positions relating to my previous experience, even though I’m not searching for them or checking any boxes for recruiters to contact me about them. One thing I’m finding is that it is much tougher this time around to transition to a development role. My last role as a web developer was back in 2015 and once that was over I jumped into System Administration. Even though I still was doing freelance web dev work, not being immersed in code on a regular basis hurt me skill-wise.

Anyway, I’ve been moving my chronological resume across the various job board sites, and while I do get some calls for web developer roles, they are most out-of-state, and we just moved to the Dallas area last year. A majority of the calls I get are about desktop engineering, system admin work, etc….

So I decided to try something new. I did some googling and found that a lot of folks are dropping the chronological resume structure altogether and are building project-based resumes. I found some examples and built mine out this past weekend. I’m not sure what kind of reactions I’ll get from recruiters but I figured I’d give it a shot. Hopefully it works out in my favor. If not, back to the drawing board I guess.
